(Data was collected from the discussions held in Kari Family Gathering @ Hajj House-Karippur conducted on n25-December-2013,attended by more than 3500 members from the family, which was inaugurated by Muslim League Leader P.K Kunjalikutty-Minister for Industry-Kerala, and honoured by the esteemed presence of Congress Leader M.I Shanawas M.P, Mammunji Haji-MLA, C.P.I Leader and former minister for Kerala Mullakkara Ratnakaran and speakers invited from different circles)
KARI FAMILY is the one of the olden Muslim families of Malabar-Kerala-India. It
is mainly ranged over localities from the three districts of Malabar region
(Malappuram, Kozhikode and wayanad). Kari Family is also found in ‘Kodagu’
District from Karnataka and ‘Nilgiris’ district from Tamil Nadu.
Main locations of this family In Malappuram District:
Karimukku and most areas of Nediyiruppu panchayat, Mattathur-Munambath, Othukkungal and Vengara-Kuttaloor.
The family is also seen in this district over the areas of Mundakkulam, Vilayil, Muthuvallor, Morayur, Melmuri and Marutha .
In Kozhikode district Kari Family is largely located at ‘Mukkam’ .
We can see a large number of Kari Family In areas of Wayanad, Kodagu and Nilgiris also.

December 25 -2013 @Hajj House -Karippur ,which proved the deep roots of this
olden Muslim family.

It is taught by the elders of the family that the family name ‘Kari’ is added to one of its forefathers who was a well-known 'Qari' (Good Reader and Teacher for Al-Qur'an) in his area.الله أعلم

In the course of time,the family spread in to different areas of Malappuram District,Mukkam in Calicut District,and some parts of Wayanad,Kudagu,and Niligiris.

Kari Family Masjid is located at Mambra-MATTATHUR - MUNAMBATH,. It is dated
to 300 years ago.
One of the six martyrs of Cheroor War (occurred in 1849 against
the British) had set out for the ‘battle’ after performing his Subuh prayers in
the Kari family Masjid. Till today every year the anniversary of this event is
observed in this masjid.
There are many stories exchanged by generations in the family
which are referring towards the great heritage of this family.
Members from Kari family were among those who accompanied Mampuram Thangal and even it is said that the family was much appreciated by Thangal for its great talents.
