Chorus
‘Ala habibika khairil khalqi kullihimi
Maulaya swalli wasallim da-iman abadan
Upon your Beloved, the best of all creatures (Sayyiduna Muhammad (ﷺ)
Oh my Master (Allah The Almighty) please send peace and blessings always forever
Thumma sswalatu a’lal mukhtari fil qidami
Al-hamdu lillahi munshi-il khalqi min ‘adami
All praises belong to Allah, who made all creation from nil

(Chapter - 1) On Sincere Love
Mazajta dam‘an jara min muqlatin bidami
Amin tadzakkuri jeeranin bidzee salami
You shed tears from your eyes continuously until it statred to flow in the colour of the blood (referring to the excessive level of weeping and crying in love for Rasulullahi (ﷺ)
(Imam busiri is placing himself in place of a real lover for Rasuullah (ﷺ) and asking himself: what happened to you? Is it because of remebering your beloved neighbours in Dhi-salam (a place between makkah mukarramah & Madinah Munawwarah)
Wa aumadhal barqu fi zhalmai min idhami
Am habbati rreehu min tilqaai kazhimatin
And The lightning flashed in darkness from thier side in Idham (a place)
(then your sorrows and memories were open again )
Or is it (your crying) because of the wind which was blown from the side of thier residents in the place - Kazhimah
Wama li qalbika in qulta stafiq yahimi
Fama li ’aynaika in qulta kfufa hamata
And what about your heart? you are telling it to come out of this extreme love but still it is going mad in love
(Imam Busiri (R) speaks in the light of an illusion, i.e. The lover wants to deny and hide his love)
if you are true in denying your love, what about your eyes? they are still flowing with tears even you are telling them to stop
Ma baina munsajimin minhu wa mudhtwarimi
A yahsabu sswabbu annal hubba munkatimun
between flowing tears and burning heart
Does the lover think that the love can be hidden and covered
Wala ariqta lidzikril bani wal ’alami
Laulal hawa lam turiq dam‘an ‘ala twalali
And you would not have avoided your sleep in remembrance (of their places) in Ban and A’lam (Two places in Arabian Peninsula)
If you were not really a lover, your hot tears would not have fallen over the monuments and remains of the houses of dears.
Bihi ‘alaika ‘uduluddam’i wassaqami
Fakaifa tunkiru hubban ba’da ma shahidat
By two true witnesses of tears and illness on this love against you who wants to deny it
How can you deny this love after witnessing (proving)
Mithlal bahari a’la khaddaika wal ’anami
Wa athbatal wajdu khatwai ‘abratin wadhana
On your cheeks, as like, tear mixed with blood is like an yellow rose (bahar) and the lines fallen on the cheeks due to weekness is like reddish fruite (A’nam)
How do you deny the love when the sadness - made by this love - has created two lines of tears mixed with blood and weakness due to illness (thus people can see your love)
Wal hubbu ya’ taridhu ladzaathi bil alami
Na ‘am sara twaifu man ahwa fa arraqani
And this is the case of love. it will block (over the lover) the tastes with a kind of pain
(Here the lover (the author) agrees the fact that he has been caught in love (with Rasulullah (ﷺ) and says:) Yes, you are right, the figure (thoughts) of my beloved has moved through my body and this (memory) did not allow me to sleep
Minni ilaika walau answafta lam talumi
Ya la-imi filhawal ‘udzriyyi ma’dziratan
Me, if you were just (in your comment) you would not have blamed me.
(He replies here to the questioner who had blamed him on his love)
O you who blames me over my pure and extreme love, Excuse
N:B- Al-Hawal U’dhriyy- means true and sincere love and it is ascribed to a tribe which was well known for their pure love)
’Anil wushati wala da-ei bimunhasimi
’Adatka haliya la sirri bi mustatirin
From the informers, and my sickness / suffering is not going to be cut off (even I get my beloved and could entertain with him)
You have already understood my situation in my love, and my secrets are not hidden any more
Innal muhibba ’anil ’udzali fi swamammi
Mahhadhtaninnusha lakin lastu asma‘uhu
Because surely the lover will not be bothered about those who blame
You have given me sincere advice. but I am not going to listen it
Washshaibu ab‘adu fi nushin anithuhami
Innithahamthu naswiha shshaibi fi ‘adzali
(Among the all advice) the grey hair is very far from being misunderstood in giving advice
It is true that I always misunderstood the grey hair (old age) in its blaming me on not following the right path
(Chapter - 2) About the Desires of the Self
Min jahliha binadziri shshaibi walharami
Fa inna ammaratii bissui mata’azhat
From the warning of the grey hair and the old age (of closeness to the death) because of its ignorence
(I misunderstood the advice of the grey hair / old age in the past, because) Surely My self - which is determined to command with sins - didn’t take advice
dhaifin alamma bira-si ghaira muhthashimi
Wala a‘addat minal fihlil jameeli qira
For this guest (grey hair) which has appeared on my head and spread shamelessly
And my self (because of its unawareness) has not prepared any good act in giving a hospitable reception
Katamtu sirran bada li minhu bil katami
Lau kuntu a‘alamu anni ma uwaqqiruhu
I would have covered this secret (grey hair) which has been exhibited to me by dyeing. (then people will not blame me on doing wrong) i.e. I must change in this age
if I had realized that I could not honour this guest (by increasing good deeds and avoiding evil deeds)
Kama yuraddu jimahul khaili billujumi
Manli bi raddi jimahin min ghawayatiha
As like the stubbornness of the horse is prevented with the help of reins
(In this conditon which was mentioned above) Who is there for me to prevent my self from its going astray
Innatwa’ama yuqawwi shahwatannahimi
Fala tarum bilma‘aaswi kasra shahwatiha
Surely, The (presence of) food will strengthen the desire of the one who has the habit of excessive eating
After asking this question to himself, the author tells himself (from the angle of a good adviser) please do not expect that you can break the desires of the ‘self’ with sins,
i.e. please do not think that you could control your self from doing sins while you are consistent on your sins
Hubbirradha‘i wa in taftwimhu yanfatwimi
Wannafsu katwifli in tuhmilhu shabba ‘ala
On its love of (feeding mother’s milk) but if you direct him towards weaning on the appropriate time he will stop it
(if you allow the ‘self’ to continue on doing sins, you will fail to control it, if you try to prevent it from doing sins on the time, it will be no longer consistent on doing sins)
Nafs (Self) is (in its addiction) like a baby, if you leave him (on feeding mother’s milk) he will grow up
Innal hawa maa tawalla yuswmi au yaswimi
Faswrif hawaha wahadzir an tuwalliyahu
Verily desire or inclination of the self, whenever it takes charge (on a person) kills him or spoils his staus
If you have understood it, please work hard to keep your self away from its inclination to be involved in sins and beware of its any authority upon you
Wa in hiya stahlatil mara’a fala tusimi
Wara’iha wahiya fil a’mali saaimatun
If it (your self) is breaking the border, do not allow it to do so
(as like the caretaker watches also whether the cattle go beyond the boundary. if they do so, he will be stopping them)
And observe it while it is involved in actions even it is good (as like the caretaker of the cattle watches them moving around and eating from a specific area
Min haithu lam yadri anna ssumma fiddasami
Kam hassanat ladzatan lil mari qatilatan
As he did not know there is poison inside the fat he enjoys (beware of your self, it will cheat you, how often it shows the man evils as good things, while the man couldn’t know that there was harm for him in following these things)
(Do not let your self to overpower you, because) How often it has shown the man things as nice and beatuiful, but actually it was leading to the death or loss
Warubba makhmaswatin sharrun mina ttukhami
Wakhsha ddasaaisa min ju’in wamin shiba‘i
Because how often the hunger is seen as much worse than indigestion (filling the stomach) (i.e. None of these two factors is encouraged or discouraged always. It should be observed wisely.
And fear plots and conspiracies of both the hunger and the satiation (full stomach)
(Beware of the self. It will encourage you to choose hunger as part of leading an austere life or it may lead you towards eating excessively)
Minal maharimi walzam himyatannadami
Wastafrighiddam‘a min ‘ainin qadimtala-at
Because of doing forbidden things, please repent from the past and follow the diet of remorse and repentance to keep your self away from the sins in the future
And please shed tears until the eyes which are filled with sins get out of tears
Wa in huma mahhadhaka nnuswha fattahimi
Wakhalifinnafsa wa shaitwana wa’swihima
Even they say that they are giving you sincere advice, please understand that they are trying to cheat you and do not trust them (because they are your biggest enemies)
And do not follow your Self (nafs) and devil (shaitan) but disobey them in every command and prohibition which are given by them
Wa anta ta’rifu kaidal khaswmi walhakami
Wala tutwi’ minhuma khasman wala hakama
Because (People like) you know about the cheatings of an enemy and partiality of an arbitartor
And do not obey ‘Nafs’ or ‘Shaitan’ even any of them appears to you as an enemy or an arbitrator
Laqad nasabtu bihi naslan lidzi ’uqumi
Astagfirullaha min qaulin bila ’amalin
(If I invite to a good deed and never practise), it is like I am adding a child to an infertile person (as father)
(Here the author feels that he is not one who follows what he says) I ask Allah forgiveness from saying good things to others without practising them in self
Wamastaqamtu fama qauli lakastaqimi
Amartukal khaira lakin ma-’tamartu bihi
And I didn’t become steadfast in the straight path, then what is the meaning of my saying to you ‘uphold the staright path’ when I am not doing so
I commanded you to do good deeds, but I didn’t practise it
Walam uswalli siwa fardhin walam aswumi
Wala tazawwattu qablal mauti nafilatan
and I did not do any prayer or fasting except the obligatory one. (The author is humbly saying that his good deeds are not much)
and I did not make any preparation for death as much additional to the obligatory acts
(Chapter - 3) On the praise of the prophet (ﷺ)
Anishtakat qadamaudhurra min warami
zhalamtu sunnata man ahyazhalama ilaa
His feet were swollen and got wounded
(Hadith related to this was reported by Imam Bukhari(R) and Imam Muslim (R) as related to Ayisha (R)
(Not following in my life) I transgressed the tradition of the prophet (ﷺ) who spent the nights in prayers untill

His soft waist under the stone
(to reduce the pain)
And he used to tie around his stomach with cloth due to the pain of hunger and he used to fold

’An nafsihi fa-araha ayyamaa shamami

Warawadathul jibalushshummu min dzahabi

Out of his way but he didn’t show any interest in accepting it.
(in this state of hunger) high mountains tried to entice him offering him to become gold

Inna dharoorata la ta’adoo ’alal ’iswami
Wa akkadat zuhdahu fiha dharuratuhu
(No wonder in it) Surely the necessities or poverty cannot attack and win over the prophet (ﷺ) the one who is protected from all sins ( (معصوم
The greatest proof for his less interest in this world is his refusal for the great wealth which was offered to him, while he was in strong need for it
Laulahu lam tukhrajiddunya minal ’adami

Wakaifa tad’u iladdunya dharuratuman

If he had not been created, the world would have not come into existence
Nb:- In a hadith which is reported by Umar bin Al-Khattab (R) - on the subject of acceptance of the repentance from Adam (‘Alaihissalam) - when Adam (‘Alaihissalam) asked Allah forgiveness for him by the status of the prophet (ﷺ), Allah (SWT) pardoned him and said to him: If It were not for Muhammad (ﷺ), I would not have created you (Hakim &Baihaqi)
How his necessities or poverty can invite him to Dunya (the enjoyment of this world)

And leader of the Aarb and Non Arab
Muhammad (ﷺ) is the leader of all in this world and next world, and leader of men and jinn

In every bursting horror of the next world

He is the most beloved to Allah, whose intercession (shafa-a) is expected

He succeeded all the prophets in his creation, and his great manners

Wakulluhum mirrasulillahi multamisun

Every one of the prophets has gained from the knowledge and perfection of the messenger of Allah (ﷺ)

Fahuwalladzee tamma ma’nahu waswuratuhu
And then the creator of the humankind (Allah) has chosen him as his most beloved
(He is chosen above all the prophets) because he is the one who has reached the perfection physically and spiritually

Because the jewel of beauty in him is undividable

(Among all creations of Allah) there is no one equal in his pefect and beautiful character

(Pease Keep this in mind) and then decide how you want to praise him
(Praise the prophet (ﷺ) how you can do, But) do not attribute to him any divine status as some had done with thier prophet Isa (’Alaihissalam)

And add to his status whatever you want to add as a greatness

And add to his nature whatever you want to add as an honour

If his miracles were proportionate to his rank, in greatness

Buraidah (radhiyallahu anhu) narrates the incident:- One man came to the prophet (ﷺ) and wanted from him a miracle to prove his prophethood. Then the prophet (ﷺ) pointed to a tree and told the man to go and tell the tree that he was calling it (to come to him). Then the man went and told the tree :-‘Messenger of Allah is calling you’. Then the tree strated to move cutting out its roots and walked down to the presence of prophet (ﷺ) making a long cut on the earth, Then the prophet (ﷺ) asked the tree to return and the tree went back to its first place. Whoever sells the everlasting next world (Akhira) for this current world (dunya)

(agreement) with the prophet (ﷺ), and my rope which connects me to him, is not going to be cut
Even I do sins (I hope that Allah will forgive me) because, my agreement (with the prophet (ﷺ) will never become inavlid
(The Poet Imam Busiri (R) may be referring to his unbreakable connection with prophet (ﷺ) as his follower, lover and bearer of his name ’Muhammad’
Muhammadan wahuwa aufal khalqi bidhimami
Fa inna lee dhimmatan minhu bitasmiyatee
as ‘Muhammad’ because he (Muhammad (ﷺ) is the most honest in keeping promises among all the creations of Allah
-
The poet may be referring to the hadith reported by Abu umamah (R) ‘whoever gets a child and he names him as ‘Muhammad’ seeking the barakat of the name of the prophet muhammad (ﷺ), he and his son will be in the paradise
(why I expect that Allah will forgive me) because I have security from him in my naming

as a bounty from him, and if I am not getting his intercession then please say: surely my feet will slip on the day (then what a bad situation it will be for me)
if he (the prophet (ﷺ) is not holding my hand in the next world, making shafa-a’ (intercession) for me to Allah
Au yarji`al jaaru minhu ghaira muhtaramin

Haashaahu an yahrimarraji makaarimahu
And nor the one who went to his great presence seeking his closeness and shafaa’, will return as not honoured (with the gift of his needs)
It will never happen that the one who expects his noble deeds ,would be denied of them,
Wajattuhu likhalaswii khaira multazami

Wa mundzu alzamtu afkaari madaa-ihahu
I have found it as the best thing to hold for my safety (from all problems)
(It is my proof) Since I devoted my thoughts in praising him
Innal haya yunbitul azhaara fil akami

Wa lan yafuotal ghina minhu yadan taribat
(How they never get?) prophet (ﷺ) is like raining, when it falls on the earth, it reaches all kinds of the places, fertile and infertile and it will be producing the flowers even on the top of hills where normally flowers never grow
Those who seek his blessings and barakats from him may be poor or sinful people, still they will get his blessings

the hands of Zuhairubnu Abee Salma praising Harim ibnu Sinan
(but I need only the love and blessings from Allah and his Messenger (ﷺ) especially the ‘shafaa’ (intercession) of the prophet (ﷺ) on the day of judgement)
And I did not want (with this praising of the prophet (ﷺ)) the flower or the beauty of this world (the wordly benefits) which were picked up by
(Chapter - 10) In the presence of the prophet (ﷺ)
Siwaaka ‘inda huloolil hadithil ‘amami
Yaa akramal khalqi maalie man aluodzu bihi
Except you when the biggest danger will descend upon the people
Oh, the noblest of all creations, I don’t have anybody (on the day of judgement) to approach for help (shafa-a’)
Idhal kareemu tahallaa bismi muntaqimi
Walan yadheeqa rasulallahi jaahuka bihi
(At the time of horror on the day of judgement) when Allah the most generous will be characterized with the name of ‘revenger’
And O, the Messenger of Allah, my case will not be a big thing in front of your big status. (because your status is powerful to make intercession for all the sinners among the believers)
Wa min ‘uluomika ‘ilmallauhi walqalami
Fainna min juodika ddunya wa dharrataha
And many of the hidden knowledges recorded in the Lauhul Mahfooz with Al-Qalam has been revealed to your knowledge by Allah (SWT)
surely this world and the next world are from your benevolence (This world never existed without you and in the next world you are the saviour of all by your shafa-a’)
Nb:- In a hadith which is reported by Umar bin Al-Khattab (R) - on the subject of acceptance of the repentance from Adam (‘Alaihissalam) - when Adam (‘Alaihissalam) asked Allah forgiveness for him by the status of the prophet (ﷺ), Allah (SWT) pardoned him and said to him: If It were not for Muhammad (ﷺ), I would not have created you (Hakim & Baihaqi)
Innal kabaaira fil ghufrani kallamami
Yaa nafsi laa taqnatwii min zallatin adzumat
Verily major sins in front of Allah’s forgivness is just like minor sins (If Allah wills he will forgive all sins except the -associating partners with Allah)
Now the poet is talking to himself 'do not be disappointed from the mercy of Allah because of your large amount of sins
Ta-’tii ’alaa hasabil ’iswyani filqisami

La’alla rahmata rabbee heena yaqsimuha

It would be coming on account of the sins for each in division
I hope that when Allah distributes His mercy

with you and make my evaluation perfect in results. (or it means please make my hope in your mercy realized)
O my Lord Allah, please make my hope (in your mercy and forgiveness) not reversed but realized

And Oh Allah, let your bessings to be always

O my lord Allah, by the satus of the prophet muhammad (ﷺ) fulfil all our intentions
