Introduction
This booklet
is dedicated to the Ummah with the hope that this will help them to be more devoted in Ibaadhas
and thus gain more attachment and sincerity in the invocations and Dhikrs.Insya Allah.
To recite the Holy Quran, and Dhikrs,
knowing the meaning is more rewarding and more effective than reciting them
without understanding the meaning.
We can find different collections of Dhikrs
and invocations compsed by Auliya and Great U’lama. They all were
compiled in accordance to the Quran and Sunnah.
This Ratib is formed of Dhikrs and Swalawat related to
Chishti Sufi Order -to which Ajmeer khaja Mue’eenudheen Chishti (Q.S) belongs -
and some Qasweedas (poems).
Sincere Efforts are made, to ensure the accuracy of
the Arabic text and translations within this booklet.
Please note that the transliterations are done in this
booklet (not for the Qur’anic Verses) to help those who do not read Arabic
at all.
We know that the Perfect transliteration is quite
difficult. So, we advise all for trying the best to follow the Arabic Text.
Along
with the translations, needed explanations also are given here.
May
Allah accept this small work and include all of us, our parents and all beloved
ones among His pious servants.

Introduction
1. Significance of Dhikrs and Dhikr Majlises
Before
we enter the text proper, it will be very useful to have a glance at the
importance of different segments of our Dhikr Majlis- (remembrance of Allah,
asking God to forgive our sins, praying for the Prophet (ﷺ) Recitation of Yaasin and some Suras from the
Holy Quran and invocations).
1.1.
The significance
of remembrance of Allah
1.1.1. From
Holy Quran:
All creatures
are obliged to remember Allah, who created and sustains them.
Allah says in the Holy Quran that every thing in the
world praises Him at every moment, and He adds that we are not aware of the
praising of other creatures.
As Allah created us only for worship, we have to
remember Him constantly.
Allah
says:: And I (Allah) created not the Jinn and mankind except that they should
worship Me (Alone): (Dhariyat-51-56)
Dhikr
purifies the heart and guides us to follow the right path in beliefs, words and
actions and to abstain from sins.
Swalawat will
afford us many virtues related to this world and the next one.
The remembrance of Allah is the easiest way to be
beloved to Allah, as the praying for the Prophet (ﷺ)-Doing
Swalawat- helps us to get his love and Shafa-a (intercession
of the prophet (ﷺ) on the Next Day
There are many verses in Holy Quran and Sunnah,
which narrate the virtues of the remembrance of Allah. Allah says:
They are those who have believed (in Allah) and
their hearts find satisfaction with the remembrance of Allah .Behold, in the
remembrance of Allah alone, there is the satisfaction of hearts.(Ra-ad-28)
He also
says:
The
remembrance of Allah is greater than
every thing. (Ankabut-29-45)
Therefore,
remember Me, I will remember you, be grateful to Me and never be
ungrateful
to Me. (Al-Baqara-2-152).
O,
You, who believe, remember Allah with much remembrance (Ahzaab-33-41)
(And
the men and women who remember Allah
frequently, Allah has prepared for them forgiveness and great reward
(Ahzaab-33-35)
Those
who remember Allah standing, sitting and reclining (3-191)
1.1.2. From Sunnah
The Prophet (ﷺ) compares those who do not do dhikr to the dead persons
(Bukhari)
Abuddarda(r) narrates from the Prophet (ﷺ) that once he asked his companions:
May I inform you
what the best of your deeds is?
Which is purest of them with your Lord?
And is better than the spending of the gold and silver
for Allah?
And striving in the cause of Allah?
Then he said: It is the remembrance of Allah (Dhikr).
(Reported by Imam Turmudi)
Abuhuraira (R) reports from the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
Allah says: ‘I am for My servant as he thinks about
me. I will be with him, whenever he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in his
mind, I will remember him in My mind. If he remembers Me in a gathering I will
remember him in a better gathering’. (Bukhari and Muslim)
In a Hadith reported by Abu- said Khudri (R) the Prophet
(ﷺ) says:
Any group of people will not gather in a masjid
remembering Allah, unless they are surrounded by angels and covered by Allah’s mercy,
and whole kinds of peace will descend on them and Allah speaks of them to those
around Him
(Muslim)
1.2.
Asking for
forgiveness:
Every Muslim is indebted to do Touba and ask forgiveness
to Allah sins, as much as he can.
The Prophet (ﷺ) has commanded to do it at least one hundred times every day
Allah says:
‘And seek forgiveness of Allah. Certainly Allah is the
Ever oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’ (-Nisa-4-106)
‘And
who so ever does evil or wrongs himself but afterwards seeks Allah’s
forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft forgiving, Most merciful (Nisa-4-110)
‘And those who,
when they have committed illegal sexual intercourse or wronged themselves with
evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins; -and none can forgive
their sins but Allah-And do not persist in what they have done, while they
know.’
‘And for such, the reward is forgiveness from their Lord,
and Gardens with rivers flowing underneath (paradise), where in they shall
abide forever. How is this reward for the doers! (-Aalu imran-3-136)
‘Say: (My slaves)
who have transgressed against them selves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair
not of the mercy of Allah, Verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is
oft-forgiving, most Merciful (Zumar-53)
1.3.
Praying for the Prophet
(ﷺ)
- (Swalawat).
This is also a
very rewarding kind of worship.
Allah says: Allah
and His angels send blessings on the Prophet (ﷺ)
.O; You who believe pray for him and send many greetings. (Ahzaab-33-56)
Prophet (ﷺ) says:
Who ever prays for
me once (recites one Swalawat, for Me), Allah grants him ten blessings
(reported by Imam Muslim)
Those who are nearest to me on the Day of
Judgment are those who do more prayers (swalawat) for Me (reported by Imam Turmidi)
Abu Huraira®
reports from the Prophet (ﷺ)
The miser is one
who does not say swallAllahu alaihi wasallam on me, when my name is said to him
(Turmidhi)
In a Hadith
reported by Abudawud, the Prophet (ﷺ)
says:
No one will send
Salam to me, unless Allah returned my soul to me and I replied to him in
same manner.
Once when the Prophet
(ﷺ) was going to deliver Khutba, Jibril (A) came and said to him
as he made three dua’s:
May Allah curse
those who hear Prophet’s name and did not pray for him (Hadith continues)
1.4.
Reading Quran
Allah has revealed the Quran for the guidance of
humanity; it includes solutions for the problems faced by mankind, here and hereafter.
Allah offers the
rewards of ten good deeds, for every letter from Quran.
Prophet (ﷺ)
says: you read Quran; it will come as an interceder in the Day of Judgment for its
companions.
(Muslim)
Surah Fatiha which is ‘Ummul Kitab’ (Mother of
Al-Qur’an) is sufficient and best remedy for all types of problems.
Surah Yasin is the heart of Quran.
In a Hadith reported by Ma-uqalu bnu Yasaar (R), the Prophet
(ﷺ) says: The heart of Quran is Yasin .No one will read Surah Yaasiin
wishing Allah and the here after unless Allah forgave him, read it on your dead
(ones).
Recitation of Surah ‘Ikhlas’ three times is equal to reading
Quran completely one time, and Suras of- ‘Falaq’ -and ‘Nas’ are recommended by the Prophet (ﷺ) to seek refuge from the devils and evils.
1.5.
Invocations:
Allah says:
Invoke Me, I will respond to your (invocation) -
(Gaafir: 40- 60)
And when My slaves ask you (O, Muhammad (ﷺ) concerning Me, (then, answer), I am near (to them by My
knowledge). I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me.
(Baqara-2-186)
The Prophet (ﷺ) says:
The invocation is the essence of the worship. (Reported by Abudawud and
Turmidi)
2. Why Dhikr Majlises (Gatherings)?
Why these types of Majlises are conducted?
Is it is not enough, to do Dhikrs alone? Is there any proof, from Quran and
Sunnah for this tradition?
We quote here some verses from Quran and
Hadeeth.
Allah orders to the Prophet (ﷺ):
وَاصْبِرْ
نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِيْنَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَدَاةِ وَ الْعَشِيِّ
يُرِيْدُونَ وَجْهَهُ
(And keep your selves patiently with those who call on
their Lord (who remember their God with glorification and, praising,
etc.)Morning and evening, seeking His face.
(Surah Al Kahf-18-28)
Abu Hurairah (R) reported:
The prophet (ﷺ)
said, "Allah (subhanau wa ta-a’alala), has teams of angels who go about on
the ways looking for those who remember Allah.
When they find some people remembering Allah, they
call to one another and say, `Come to what you are looking for;' and they cover
them with their wings till the space between them and the lowest sky is fully
covered.
Allah (subhanau wa ta-a’alala) asks them (although He
is best informed about everything): `What are my slave saying?'
They say: `They are glorifying you- doing Tasbih,
Tahmid, Takbir, Tamjid,
He asks: `Have
they seen Me?'
They reply, `No, indeed, they have not seen You.'
He asks: `How would they do if they were to see Me?'
Thereupon they response: `If they were to see You,
they would involve more sincerely in worshipping and glorifying You and would praise
You more.'
He would say: `What do they ask me ?'
They say, `They ask you for Your Jannah.'
Allah says, `Have they seen My Jannah?'
They say, `No, our Lord.'
He says: `How
would they act if they were to see My Jannah?'
They reply, `Were they to see it, they would more extremely
willing for it.'
They (the angels) say, `They seek Your Protection.'
He asks, `Against what do they seek My Protection?'
They (the angels) say, `Our Lord, from the Hell Fire.'
(He) says, `Have they seen the Hell Fire?'
They say, `No. By Your Honour, they have not seen it.'
He says: `How would they act if they were to see My
Fire?'
They say: `If they were to see it, they would more
fearing it.
They ask for Your forgiveness.'
He says: `I
call you to witness that I hereby award My forgiveness to them and approve for
them what they ask for; and allow them protection against what they seek
protection from.
‘One of the angels says: `Our Lord, there is amongst
them such and such servant for You who does not belong to the gathering of
those who are joining in Your remembrance. He passed by them and sat down with
them.'
He says: `I forgive
him also because these (people of the Majlis) are the people, if somebody wants
to sit with them they also never fail. (Bukhari and Muslim).
Significance
of Friday Night?-(Thursday
night according to English calendar):-
Friday is the best
of all days, and from all nights its night is dearest to Allah.
Prophet (ﷺ) has required us to recite more Swalawat in
the night and day -on Friday.
Aous (r) narrates
from the Prophet (ﷺ) that he said:
The best of all
days is Friday. So, please maximize to do Swalats on me, on this day.
Your Swalwat will be submitted in to me (my grave).
Then they asked; how it is, as you will be
resting there?
Then he replied:
Allah has prevented the earth from touching the bodies of Prophets! (Abu
Dawud).
Manners
of Majlis:
i.
To take ablution
ii.
To sit in Circle (Halqah)
iii.
To use perfumes
iv.
To keep concentration, devotion and sincerity
v.
To select a medium of sound.

I seek
forgiveness, from Allah the almighty.
|
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“O mankind! Do Taubah (repent) to Allah and seek His forgiveness, for
surely, I do so 100 times every single day.” (Muslim)
Nabi Muhammad (ﷺ) says: Every
disease has medicine, the medicine of the sins, is to ask forgiveness from Allah!
(Muslim)
Ibn
'Abbas (R) said:
The prophet (ﷺ) said:
"If anyone continually seeks
forgiveness (from Allah), Allah will assign for him a way out of every distress
and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where
he expects not."
[Abu Dawud].
[Abu Dawud].
There is a beautiful hadith for Rasulullahi (ﷺ) that he says:
Someone committed a sin and then said: "O Allah! Forgive me
my sin."
Allah said: "My servant committed a sin, but knew that he
has a Lord who forgives and punishes."
Then he committed the sin again and said: "My Lord! Forgive
me my sin."
Allah said: "My servant committed a sin, but knew that he
has a Lord who forgives and punishes."
Then he committed the sin again and said: "My Lord! Forgive
me my sin."
Allah said: "My servant committed a sin, but knew that he
has a Lord who forgives and punishes.
Do as you will! For I
have forgiven you!
(Bukhari & Muslim)
(Bukhari & Muslim)
This hadith intends that nobody can be disappointed from the
mercy of Allah.
At the same time, beware of making fun of Allah repeating our
sins and breaking our Taubas without any fear for Him.

Jabir (R) reports from the Prophet (ﷺ): The greatest Dhikr is –Lailaha
ill Allah-(Turmidhi)
The Prophet (ﷺ) says:
‘Those who maximise the dhikr of Lailaha illAllah
would not have fear of their loneliness in their graves and in the day of
resurrection. I am seeing them now as they are removing the dusts from their
heads and saying: All praises are to Allah who saved us from the sorrow of this
day. Verily, our Lord is Forgiver and very Grateful’ (Twabraani)
The Prophet (ﷺ) also
says:
If anyone says –Lailaha illAllah (with real faith and
practice) he will enter paradise (Twabrani)
He (ﷺ) also said:
Please increase the dhikr of –Lailaha illAllah
-before the curtain falls between you and these (Great) words. (Twabraani)
It is obviously clear from many hadiths that the person whose last
word will be- Lailahaillallah-surely will go Jannah among those who are
first to enter in.

This announces the
principle –That Allah the Almighty God is only one to help and support us .

Allah’s name).
|
Sultanu dhikr
for Auliya is Allahu, Allah.
‘Allah’ is
the Sustainer for the whole universe.
Everybody in
this world is accountable to Allah for his words and actions.
Our major
thoughts and fears should be about ‘Allah’.
When the
rememberance of ‘Allah’ is stronger in a believer,he would be
protected. No need to be worried. -Insya Allah
Allah will open
for him the doors...
Allah says (explaining the charecteristics of the believers):
الذين اذا ذكر الله وجلت قلوبهم
“Whose hearts fear when ‘Allah’ is
mentioned” (22:35)
He also says:
"Certainly,
the remembrance of Allah is the greatest (29:45)
In Hadith reported by Imam Muslim, the Prophet (ﷺ) says:
لا تقوم الساعة على أحد يقول الله الله
The Hour will not
appear on anyone who says: "Allah, Allah."
’
|
Allah Hu’ Hu’ Hu’
|
Allah ,
(Huo-is one of the names of ‘ Allah’)
|
This is a common dhikr .
The ‘Hu’ (He) is a name for Allah (ism) and it is used for 'Allah' in Quran in many places.
Being dissolved in ‘Allahu Allah’ (and in ‘Tauheed’)
Saints of Allah (Auliya) always evoked Him (Allah) in every breath.
They had ‘Allah’ only on their
minds.
When the ‘Mujahada’ develops with the Dhikr ‘Allahu
Allahu’ (in its original form or in forms like Hu Hu.Etc),this dhikr sparks in
them like fire which will burn all of their desires and they will pass through
higher stages of spirituality and nearness to Allah (subhanahu wata-a’la).
يَا

Yaa Hayyu Ya Qayyoomu
The Ever-Living and, Undying Oh, The
self-Existing and The Sustainer of the Universe
Note: Here we have to intend our wishes related to the both worlds.
Hayy: The
Ever-Living, Undying.
Qayyoom: The Self
Existing One Who is The Sustainer of the Universe upon whom all depend.
Ismul Aa’zam
Dua’ done using ‘Ismul
Aa’zam’ (the greatest name of Allah (Taa’ala)) will be answered by Allah,
very soon-Insya Allah.
‘Ismul Aa’zam’ is not plainly explained to us (inorder to
encourage us for maximising ways of Ibadha) as it is the case of Lailatul
Qadr also.
There are different views regarding which is ‘Ismul Aa’zam’
‘Allah’ is the Ismul Aa’zam with a group of scholars when another group says that Al-Hayyu
l Qayyumu is the Ismul Aa’zam.
The basic of the both opinions comes from the Hadith reported by Abu
Umamah (R) that the prophet (ﷺ) said:
‘Ismul Aa’zam’is contained in Surah
Baqarah, Al-Imran and Twahaa.
During the serious
situations Nabi (ﷺ) used to make dua’s using –Two Holy Names
of Allah (Yaa Hayyu, Yaa Qayyoom) (Tirmidhi)
|
|||
We read
these verses from Quran because it is said that there is ‘Ismul Aa’zam’ in them
|
Abu Umamah ®
says that the Prophet (ﷺ) has said that ‘Ismul Aa’zam’
(the greatest name of Allah (Taa’ala)) through
which He fulfils people’s needs is contained in Surah Baqarah., Al-Imran and
Twahaa.
Abu
Umamah (R) says that when he searched for ‘Ismul
Aa’zam’ in Baqarah he found it to be in Ayatul Kursi.
And when he
searched in Surah Aalu-Imran he found it to be the words in the second verse.
And in Surah Twahaa
he found it to be the words: وَعَنَتْ الْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَيِّ
الْقَيُّومِ
يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ نَسْتَغِيثُ

us in charge of our soul,

This invocation is recommended especially for those
who are in a helpless condition and in complete despair.
Fatima® required the prophet (ﷺ) what to read when she feels something tough.
Then he said: - say in the morning and evening
