Nediyiruppu - History,നെടിയിരുപ്പ് സ്വരൂപം,Nediyiruppu Swaroopam

Chera  King renounced the throne causing  the kingdom to be divided into different sovereigns.  The Eranad Udaiyavar (like some other provincial governors) established a sovereign kingdom based on Nediyiruppu  which was titled  'Nediyiruppu Swaroopam'.

The king controlled the Eranad area (large parts of the present Malappuram district, to the south of Calicut). He was called 'Mootha Eradi of Nediyiruppu'. For hundreds of years 'Nediyiruppu' remained as the capital for this kingdom.

During  the period of the Chera Empire (Ad.825-1100), Calicut  ( it was called 'Polanadu' on those days) was reigned by the emperor of Poland (represented by a local lord with the title of 'Porlathiri'). ' Panniankara' was the capital.

Targeting  the foreign trade, 'Eradies of Nediyiruppu Swaroopam' attacked the 'Porlathiris' of Calicut (Polanadu) and conquered  them in a long war.

Soon, 'Eradies of Nediyiruppu' left their homeland at 'Nediyiruppu' ,set up their Capital at Calicut and established a large Empire extending from the North to the Centre of Kerala. .

The king was named  as  Samuthiri (Zamorin).
(The word 'samoothiri' meant as ‘The King of the Sea).

Later ,the Zamorins ruled  for about  six centuries (  AD: 12th - 18th century) based at the city of Calicut.
